Thursday March 15 started out rainy and humid on the shores of Lake Arenal.

Our Continental Breakfast and poached eggs were eaten in the dining room of La Mansion Inn interspersed with conversation with Freeman, a farmer from Colorado.  We learned that the very skinny, white cattle, that I thought were starving, are actually quite plump Brahman cattle and probably the only ones capable of living in the hot, dry areas of CR.  I digress.  Arenal Volcano still shrouded with clouds right down to its base.

It showered a little as we drove back around the lake (red line) and came across a group of White-nosed Coati.  At La Fortuna we again filled up the gas tank, then headed to El Tanque where we missed the turn off for Upala, but only went about 3 minutes down the road before turning back.  It is best to know the name of…
